Our Mission
GCRA is a non-profit, volunteer-based adult organization dedicated to providing its diverse membership safe sculling and sweep rowing opportunities, from beginner to competitive levels. GCRA is committed to promoting and fostering interest in the sport of rowing through programming, through teaching and by organizing regattas.
Our History
The Greater Columbus Rowing Association (GCRA) was founded in 1984 as a tax exempt not-for-profit organization. GCRA was incorporated as "The Greater Columbus Rowing Association, Inc." in the fall of 1984 when its Articles of Incorporation were approved by the Ohio Secretary of State. GCRA's charter number is 643984. The incorporators and original trustees were Miles C. Durfey, Albert Bishop, J. Patric Dennis and Robert D. Oldfield, III. The first statutory agent was Miles C. Durfey.
Our Leadership
The club administration consists of a officer board and trustee board both of which are comprised of volunteers. The four member officer committee manages the day-to-day operations of the club while the seven member trustee board provides long-term strategic guidance. Each officer/trustee is elected by the membership to serve a two year term. Committees are formed to help the organization accomplish their goals.
